Chhattisgarh’s Prime Minister Bhupesh Baghel has written a letter to Union Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi requesting once again the state’s legitimate share of the additional revenue raised from the state’s coal block plots.

Referring to his letter sent on January 23, Baghel stated that state authorities had previously demanded an additional tax of more than Rs 4,140.21 million deposited at the Center by eight former coal block winners of all blocks canceled with a Rs 295 per metric ton for mining. Baghel additionally referred to the opinion of the State Government given in response to the letter from the Union Coal Ministry dated August 27, 2015. Baghel, in his letter, maintains that according to the Constitution, the Coal Mining Law (Special Provisions), the principles of the Mining and Minerals Law of 1951, the Mineral Concession Rules of 2016 and the Revenue Code of the Land of Chhattisgarh, state authorities are in possession of collecting royalties, levies, and various mineral taxes. He added that there is also a provision in favor of state authorities.
The prime minister emphasized that state authorities have the right to obtain the amount of additional levies deposited with the Ministry of Coal, in exchange for a fee of Rs. 295 per metric ton by previous coal block allocators.
Baghel stated that Chhattisgarh may be under blockade for the past month and a half to prevent the development of Covid-19.
