Periamet police arrested a dentist in Chennai on Friday for falsifying his daughter’s NEET score card and call letter to secure an MBBS seat during medical counseling that took place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Periamet in November. The defendant, Balachandran, was arrested in Bengaluru on the basis of a formal complaint from the Directorate of Medical Education. The police are looking for the daughter. Police arrested Balachandran after the father and daughter failed to appear after receiving three summons.
Balachandran and his daughter, who are from Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram, allegedly produced a fake scorecard with increased scores to get an MBBS seat during the medical consultation held on November 30 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Periamet.
Although the student appeared in person, she claimed that she was eligible for a seat as she had the required documents. However, upon reviewing the documents, the personnel in charge of verifying the certificate found that the call letter and the score sheet with the NEET scorecard were allegedly false.
The candidate was reportedly originally awarded just 27 points, but the father-daughter duo presented a forged 610-point certificate. Immediately, counseling center officials warned the duo for producing false documents and left them behind. At the center, she allegedly claimed to be another candidate who had scored 610 points on NEET and told authorities that she had not received her counseling call. He also presented a ranking list with the photo and the number of its circulation against 610 brands.
However, the Directorate of Medical Education recently submitted a formal complaint to the Periamet police based on which a case was registered against the father and daughter for falsification of documents and misrepresentation.
In the complaint, the additional director of medical education and secretary of the selection committee, G Selvarajan, said that the girl obtained only 27 points in NEET 2020, but that her scorecard was loaded with 610.
Police soon issued a subpoena, but since the father and daughter did not show up, a record was set. After a hunt, the police arrested Balachandran on Friday. Police reportedly arrested him as he approached court to obtain advance bond.
Balachandran was brought before a judicial magistrate and has been brought in for investigation. Currently, the police are investigating the possibility that there are individuals or groups involved behind the problem. There have also been similar cases in the past where parents have been accused of forging NEET scorecards.
