After Chennai, western Tamil Nadu reported a high number of cases. Almost a third of them were in Coimbatore (574). The local body had started the containment zones again. He had put the practice on hold for a time as the cases were dropped. As cases increase, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner P Kumaravel Pandian said streets with three or more cases will be sealed for 14 days.
In Salem, too, the number of infections and deaths has risen. The district has 2,794 active cases, the second highest in TN after Chennai.
The situation in the south of the state is improving. In central Tamil Nadu, there were six deaths. But some districts like Thanjavur (266 new cases) were moving into the danger zone with a 32% increase in the number of active cases. Trichy had 97 new cases.
Commenting on this, public health expert K Kolandaisamy said: “With lockdown rules relaxed, cases are increasing in one area and decreasing in other areas. The disease is spreading equally among vulnerable and healthy people as well. We have come to a standstill now and the situation will remain the same for at least another two months. But we are definitely in the decline phase. ”
