Amidst the prevailing chaos and uncertainty about access to services and commodities during closing, we bring you the latest updates from your city.
* Update at 4.24pm: All private establishments can operate in non-containment areas with 33% resistance. It is allowed between 10.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. within the Greater Chennai Police boundary, and 10 a.m. at 7 p.m. in the rest of the state, says the Tamil Nadu government
* Update at 4.12 p.m.: The Tamil Nadu government approached the Supreme Court on Saturday challenging an order from the Madras High Court ordering all state liquor stores to be closed and only allowing for the online sale of spirits in the state in the midst of the shutdown (ANI).
* Update at 3.33pm: Fuel pumps will be allowed to operate within the Greater Chennai police boundary between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., while in the rest of the state from 6 a.m. at 8 p.m. and 24 hours on state and national highways

* Update at 14:42: The Tamil Nadu government has established a high-level committee under former RBI Governor C Rangarajan to advise the government on the impact of the pandemic on the state economy. The committee will have to present its report within 3 months and the state finance secretary, S Krishnan, will be the committee chair.
