Shehla Rashid, a student activist and former student union leader at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), denied on Monday her estranged father’s charges that she is involved in anti-national activities. Abdul Rashid Shora, in a letter to the Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief, also claimed that Shehla, his sister Asma and his wife Zubeda Shora, as well as their security guard, are reportedly threatening his life.
Shehla denied these allegations, instead accusing her father of domestic violence. “Many of you must have come across a video of my biological father making wild accusations against me and my mom and my sister. To be short and direct, he is a wife beater and an abusive and depraved man. We finally decided to act against him, and this trick is a reaction to that, ”Shehla tweeted, posting a three-page letter.
In a series of tweets, Shehla spoke about her father. He said it was not a political issue, “as has been happening since I regained consciousness” and also sent him a letter on Twitter from the mohalla committee in 2005 asking him not to abuse them.
Never, in his wildest dreams, had he imagined that his obedient wife and shy daughters would ever speak out against him. Since the Honorable Court prevented him from entering his house, he is trying to derail the judicial process by resorting to cheap tricks, “he said in one of the tweets.
“You can talk endlessly about justice, but charity really begins at home. We have finally decided not to endure the abuse in silence, as silence only emboldens the abusers. Here is the court order that prevents you from entering home dated 11-17-2020. Everything he says is an afterthought, ”he added in his last tweet.
Rashid has also demanded an investigation against the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) led by Shehla and accused her of having accepted money to join politics in the Kashmir Valley, an accusation she denies.
