New Delhi:

For the first time, an IPS official was appointed as Inspector General (IG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sector in Srinagar, one of the terrorist-hit areas in Jammu and Kashmir.

Charu Sinha, IPS officer from the 1996 Telangana cadre, will now head the Srinagar sector for CRPF as Inspector General. This is not the first time that he has been assigned such a difficult task, previously he had also worked as IG, Bihar sector at CRPF and dealt with Naxals.

Under his leadership, several anti-naxal operations were carried out. Later, she was transferred to IG Jammu at CRPF, where she spent a long and successful tenure. On Monday, a new order came in designating it as the IG Srinagar sector.

Current CRPF Managing Director AP Maheshwari headed the Srinagar sector as IG in 2005.

The sector, which started operations in 2005, never had an official at the IG level. This sector participates in counterterrorism operations and works closely with the Indian Army together with the Jammu and Kashmir police.

“The Srinagar sector is located in Brein Nishat, Srinagar (JK). It started operations in 2005. The Srinagar sector has operational jurisdiction over three districts of JK-Budgam, Ganderbal and Srinagar and the Union Territory of Ladakh”, said the CRPF.

“It includes 2 ranks, 22 executive units and 3 Mahila companies. Apart from this, the Srinagar Sector has administrative control over the Center-Srinagar Group,” the paramilitary force added.

Charu Sinha will also lead all operations involved in this sector.

In addition to this, 6 IPS officers and 4 senior officers have also been transferred or incorporated into the CRPF. IPS officers Maheshwar Dayal (Jharkhand sector), PS Ranpise (Jammu sector), Raju Bhargava (Work) have been incorporated into the CRPF.

PS Ranpise will replace Charu Sinha as head of the Jammu sector.
