The defendant, in the incident in which three minor girls suffered burns after allegedly being attacked with acid on Monday night while sleeping at his home in the Gonda district of UP, has been arrested, police said Tuesday.
The defendant was arrested after an encounter with police personnel in the Huzurpur state area on Tuesday night. He suffered injuries during the encounter and has been hospitalized.
Speaking to reporters, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahendra Kumar said: “A case was registered at the Paraspur Police Station after an acid chemical was thrown at three minor girls. In the police investigation, it was discovered that an Ashish person alias Chotu is a defendant. “
“The police launched a search for the accused and, late at night, a police team saw him arrive on a motorcycle. His bicycle slipped when he saw the police jeep and opened fire on the police, and the police personnel retaliated in self-defense during which the defendant was injured. He has been detained and sent to a hospital for treatment, “the ASP said.
The defendant’s bicycle has been seized and a pistol and cartridges from his possession have been recovered, the police official said, adding that an additional investigation is underway.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the Gonda Police Superintendent to crack down on the culprit and provide the girls with immediate financial assistance and ensure proper treatment, according to an official statement.
“Three younger sisters were attacked with a chemical while sleeping on the first floor of their house. Doctors are investigating what chemical was used. The girls are stable. One has a 30% burn rate, while the other two have a 20% and 7 percent burn injuries, “Shailesh Kumar Pandey, Police Superintendent, Gonda, told reporters.
The 17, 12 and seven year old siblings have been admitted to the district hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
