Telugu Desam Party Chairman and former Prime Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu had a miraculous escape when his convoy vehicles collided with each other in the Yadadri Bhongir district of Telangana on Saturday night, police said.
Three members of the National Security Guard (NSG) suffered minor injuries, while the bulletproof vehicle in which they were traveling was badly damaged.
The incident occurred in the village of Dandumalkapuram of the Choutuppal block on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad national highway (NH-65) when Naidu was returning to Hyderabad from his residence in Amaravati in his convoy of vehicles.
According to Choutuppal Police Inspector Ch Venkanna, Naidu was traveling in a convoy of seven vehicles, three in front and three behind. “The former prime minister was in the fourth vehicle. The driver of the first vehicle applied sudden brakes in an attempt to avoid colliding with a cow crossing the road, ”he said.
As a result, the second car in the convoy collided with the first escort car from behind and the other vehicles in the convoy were also forced to apply hard brakes. “The third car, which was bulletproof, collided with the second car and its front end was destroyed,” said the inspector.
Naidu, who was in the convoy’s fourth car, escaped unharmed, as his car also stopped suddenly but did not collide with the vehicle in front of him. Of the eight vehicles in the Chandrababu Naidu convoy, three vehicles collided with each other.
Although a TDP official familiar with the development said that three NSG security personnel in the second car were slightly injured, the inspector said he did not have that information. “They abandoned the damaged vehicle and drove to Hyderabad in another car,” he said.
The police did not register any cases as no complaint was made.
