Chandigarh, September 6
Chandigarh reported 261 new coronavirus cases on Sunday and two deaths, a medical bulletin from the Chandigarh administration said overnight.
Two 50-year-old men, a 58-year-old man from Dhanas and a 50-year-old man from Manimajra, died at the Chandigarh Government Hospital and Medical College in Sector 32. The bulletin said that they were both diabetic and the resident de Manimajra also suffered from hypertension.
The events brought the death toll in the union territory to 71 out of 5,763 infections. Chandigarh has seen an increase in both cases and death counts since the beginning of this month. UT has been reporting more than 200 infections every day since September 1 and has added more than 1,440 infections and 15 deaths in less than a week.
Forty-four percent of UT cases are still active.
Meanwhile, 149 people were released from hospital quarantine as well as home isolation, according to the bulletin.
Tricity Cases Increase
The development comes on a day when Mohali reported 215 new coronaviruses and eight deaths, and Panckhula recorded 137 new cases and two more deaths. Tricity’s single-day total count on Sunday is 613.
Tricity has been showing an increase in cases since the beginning of this month, adding 3,777 cases, 27 percent of the total of 13,723 cases, so away — in less than a week from September 1.
About 42 percent of cases are still active in tricity.
