Chandigarh reported 232 new coronavirus cases, a development that brings COVID-19 infections from the union territory to just under 6,000.
The UT also reported three new deaths, bringing its count to 74.
More than a quarter of the 5,995 UT cases are still active.
The three who died were women and one of them was in his 70s.
A 45-year-old woman from Dhanas who was diabetic died at the Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research on Saturday.

Chandigarh’s COVID-19 cases have skyrocketed since the beginning of this month. The UT has consistently reported infections in triple digits and added more than 1,649 new cases, which is just over 27 percent of total cases, and 18 deaths in a week since Sept. 1.
The development comes on a day when Mohali reported 224 new cases with six deaths, and Panchkula reported 88 new cases and two deaths. Tricity’s total single-day case count is 544 with 11 deaths.

The Chandigarh peak also corresponds to a general spike in coronavirus cases seen at Tricity since late August. Tricity has added 3,901 new coronavirus cases — 27 percent of its 14,247 total infections — to its count since the beginning of the month.
Forty percent of his total cases are still active at Tricity.
