Congress has extended its support for the farmers’ ‘chakka jam’, which will be observed in all states except Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Farmers who have been protesting three farm laws passed by Parliament last year have called for a three-hour ‘chakka jam’ across India on Saturday. Congress has extended its support for the chakka jam.
This is the first major farmer event after the Republic Day tractor march that ended in violent clashes with Delhi police. Although the farmers’ unions have promised that Chakka Jam will be peaceful and out of Delhi, the Delhi police and the Haryana police are tightening their security measures.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Chakka Jam
> It will be observed from 12 noon to 3 in the afternoon.
> National and state highways will be blocked, said Samayukt Kisan Morcha. It has been said that the chakka jam will take place across the country.
> Emergency and essential services will not stop anywhere.
> But if you are traveling on a freeway on Saturday between 12 and 3 PM, you will probably get stuck.
> Farmers have said they will provide food and water to those caught in the chakka jam.
> There will be no chakka jam in Delhi after the Republic Day event. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also exempt from this protest, as farmers from these two states may need to travel to the protest sites in Delhi. All roads leading to Delhi will remain open except where protests continue.
> The chakka jam is a symbolic protest by farmers against the suspension of the Internet on protest sites.
