Metro services across the country have been resumed as part of Unlock 4, since they were suspended in March due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Starting on September 21, also as part of Unlock 4, schools will also partially reopen, albeit only for classes 9-12.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) published guidelines for the partial reopening of schools.
This is all you need to know:
• Only schools outside the containment zones will reopen, and only staff members and students living outside the containment zones will be able to attend.
• Students can visit schools on a voluntary basis, to receive guidance from teachers. In addition, they must request written permission from their parents to make the visit.
• The student-teacher interaction will take place in a staggered manner.
• These SOPs are in addition to the specific actions that will be taken when schools allow students to come for orientation purposes.
• These will also apply to skills or entrepreneurship institutions, higher education institutions conducting doctoral courses and postgraduate studies.
• Detailed SOPs are available on the Ministry of Health website mohfw.gov.in.
• Schools and educational institutions have been closed since March when the pandemic began to spread throughout the country. Since then, online classes are taking place and will continue for the time being.
• After four phases of national blockade, from March 25 to May 31, the country began to reopen as of June 1. Currently, Unlock 4 is in effect; started on September 1 and will end on September 30.
• India has overtaken Brazil to be the second most affected country after the United States. Her tally is currently nearly 43 lakh, including over 33 lakh recoveries and over 72,000 deaths.
