New Delhi: On Saturday, the central government issued a notification for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation into the alleged gang rape and subsequent death of a woman in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh.
The notification has been flagged to an appropriate branch of the lead agency, and investigation teams will be dispatched to the crime scene along with forensic experts immediately after an FIR is searched, PTI officials cited.
A 19-year-old Dalit girl had succumbed to her injuries in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on September 29 after being assaulted and allegedly gang-raped in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh on September 14. His mortal remains were taken to his birthplace, where the UP police and the administration allegedly forcibly cremated his body without the consent of the family or their presence.
The UP government on Tuesday urged the Supreme Court to lead an IWC investigation into the alleged gang rape and death of a Dalit woman in Hathras, saying it will ensure that no vested interest can create a false and false narrative. with “oblique motifs”.
The state government said the central agency’s investigation would avoid obstacles created by certain vested interests in the fair and impartial investigation.
