Center calls on states and UT to reopen medical schools on or before December 1

The Union Ministry of Health ordered on Wednesday the states and territories of the Union to initiate the necessary steps for the reopening of medical schools on or before December 1, but with compliance with all Covid-19 guidelines .
In a letter to all the chief secretaries and administrators of all the states and UT, a senior official from the health ministry said:
“States / UTs may take the necessary steps to open medical schools on or before December 1, 2020. It goes without saying that all SOPs / Guidelines regarding social distancing and preventing the spread of epidemic problems by part of the central / state / UT governments will be scrupulously formed by all the schools “.
After the recommendation of the National Medical Commission (NMC), the letter from the Ministry of Health to which the ANI has had access, mentions: “The NMC has also delivered a suggestive training program for different classes that is attached to your letter Additionally, the NMC cautioned that sufficient non-Covid beds may be available in medical school hospitals to facilitate medical training for university students. “
The Union Ministry of Health has also obtained approval from the Ministry of the Interior for the reopening of medical schools in the states and UT.
An NMC recommendation letter dated November 12 stated that medical schools across the country must reopen on or before December 1, 2020, for MBBS students already pursuing their studies.
“The new delayed academic session for 2020-21 should start from February 1, 2021. The new PG session for academic years 2020-21 should start at least July 1, 2021 and its strong PG NEET exam for AY 2021-22 they should be scheduled between March and April 2021, “said NMC’s letter of recommendation.
NMC’s letter also mentions the restart of facilities for both outpatient and inpatient management for non-Covid patients.
“The commission also noted that hospitals attached to university hospitals have been converted to full COVID hospitals in several states. However, with the opening of medical schools and to facilitate the formation of UG, all medical schools and Affiliated hospitals should have a sufficient number of beds for non-Covid patients and therefore non-Covid inpatient and outpatient management facilities should be restarted, if not already done. ” the letter said.
NMC requested, “the central government can issue the necessary instructions to all state governments for the reopening of medical schools and also make COVID-free beds available in the hospitals of affiliated medical schools to facilitate undergraduate medical training.” .
“The schools will comply with the Covid 19 reopening guidelines issued by the competent authorities of the Central / State / UT Governments,” he also said.
