New Delhi: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology banned 43 Chinese mobile apps on Tuesday (November 24, 2020) that were reportedly involved in activities damaging to the sovereignty and integrity of India.
The order was issued under section 69A of the Information Technology Act.
“This action was taken on the basis of the contributions related to these applications to engage in activities that are detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of India, the defense of India, state security and public order,” read in the official statement.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued the order to block access to these applications by users in India based on the full reports received from the Cybercrime Coordination Center of India, Ministry of the Interior.
As of early June this year, the Center had blocked access to 59 mobile applications and in September, 118 more applications were banned under section 69A of the Information Technology Act.

“The government is committed to protecting the interests of the citizens and the sovereignty and integrity of India on all fronts and will take all possible measures to ensure that,” the official statement said.
