Center-Assigned Labs Taking Over 24 Hours to Provide Covid-19 Test Reports: Satyendar Jain

Labs assigned by the central government are taking more than 24 hours to provide reports for Covid-19 tests as they are working at full capacity, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Tuesday.

“The response period for results should be 24 hours. However, when the laboratories are operating at full capacity … The central government had promised that the large laboratories would carry out the tests. But the results of these tests will not be delivered in 24 hours, ”the minister told reporters here.

He said the number of tests should always remain at least 10 percent less than the laboratory’s capacity to ensure timely results. “The issue of the delay is being addressed with the Indian Center and Council for Medical Research,” added the minister.

Speaking about the Union Ministry’s announcement that tests in Delhi will be increased to 60,000 per day by November 30, he said that tests can be increased at any time, but added that labs cannot process reports on time. .

Yesterday, 3,726 new positive cases of Covid-19 were reported. The positivity rate is constantly decreasing. Yesterday’s positivity rate was 7.35 percent, which is about 55 percent from its peak of 15.26 percent on November 7, “the minister said.

“In the next week or two, the positivity rate will drop even more. The mortality rate is currently 1.61%. Many people’s condition worsened due to air pollution in November. The situation will improve soon, ”he added.

The minister said that the cost of the RT-PCR test has been reduced to Rs 800 and Rs 1,200 if the sample is taken from home.
