Mumbai:

In a caustic attack on the BJP, Shiv Sena said Tuesday that “celebrating” the fourth anniversary of demonetization by which many people “committed suicide” and destroyed businesses is like cutting birthday cakes from their graves.

In an editorial in its spokesperson “Saamana”, the Sena called the 2016 decision a “black chapter” in Indian history.

He stated that the ban on promissory notes and the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST) strongly affected the country’s interests. “Celebrating the decision (of demonetization) by which many people embraced the deaths … jobs were lost … committed suicide and businesses and industries were destroyed, is like cutting a birthday cake on the graves of all those people”, said editorial said.

Speaking on the fourth anniversary of the demonetization of the 500 and 1000 rupees banknotes on November 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the move helped reduce black money and gave a boost to transparency.

The Sena also said that the BJP raised issues like the construction of the Ram temple and the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput in the Bihar Assembly polls, but failed to get people to click.

“But the atmosphere in Bihar changed after (RJD leader) Tejashwi Yadav promised 10 lakhs of jobs. His demonstrations saw huge apparitions (by the people). They included mostly unemployed youth. What does this indicate? ” the Shiv Sena asked.
