CBSE Board Exams Will Not Be Taken In Feb 2021, Pokhriyal Says ‘Online Tests Impossible, Dates To Be Decided Later’


Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said on Tuesday that the next board examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will not take place until February 2021. He further said that the government will take a decision on when to start exams. later.

Pokhriyal made the announcement during a live interaction with the professors at the board exams. Before this, he had interacted with students regarding entrance exams and online classes. On the modes of the exams, Pokhriyal said: “Many CBSE schools are in rural areas. Therefore, online exams are not possible.”

Board examinations in 2021 will be in written mode only and not online, CBSE officials previously said. Board officials also said that if students were unable to show up for practice in classes before exams, alternatives would be explored.

The board examinations that were taking place in March had to be postponed midway. The exams were later canceled and the results were announced based on an alternative evaluation plan. Competitive exams like JEE and NEET were also postponed twice this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There have been demands to postpone board exams until May in view of continued school closings and teaching-learning activities are completely online.

Last week, the Minister of Education announced that the JEE-Mains Exam for Admission to Engineering Universities will be held four times a year starting in 2021 to offer students flexibility and the opportunity to improve their scores. The first edition of the exam will be held from February 23 to 26, followed by rounds in March, April and May. The minister added that the exams are being conducted in 13 languages ​​for the first time.

“We have reviewed the feedback received from students and various sectors and it has been decided that JEE-Mains will be held in four sessions in February, March, April and May,” said Nishank. “The first session will be held from February 23 to 26 and the results will be announced within five days after the last exam date,” he said.
