Teachers request three months of physical classes, await CBSE Board exams in May 2021

Teachers have expressed uncertainty regarding the board exams being conducted on the normal February through March calendar and share that a date sheet for May would be more desirable, provided schools reopen on or after 1 January.

“We have completed the study program and started preparations. Additionally, a pre-dash schedule is also ready. But the fact is, students are not yet ready for the exams. Before we contemplate board exams, we urgently need schools to reopen and physical classes to resume! “shared Ms Rai, Director, AIS.

Dr. Gupta, who teaches Physics at a government upper secondary school, expressed concern about conducting board exams on schedule. “We have not had a practical class in the year; in such a situation, conducting board reviews in March would seem superfluous. Students must return to classrooms, be evaluated, trained and have their doubts resolved before the exams can be taken, ”he added.

Regarding the dates of the exams, the interviewed teachers agree that a minimum of “compulsory” classes for 3 months is essential before the exams can be taken. “Students need to be aware of changes in the test pattern, conditioned to show up for a three-hour assignment, write, and, most importantly, be confident that they can. We need time for all of this and testing before May is simply not acceptable! “shared Ms. Parul, a senior teacher with over 20 years of experience.

“Ideally, if schools were to reopen on January 1, then the board can start practical exams before April 15 and take written exams starting May 1. This would give the teachers the months of January to March to help students with their doubts, give practical classes and also explain some topics that are quite difficult to explain in online classes! “

While they shared the ‘desirable’ dates, experts also warned that it is also not advisable to advance the articles until June. A balance needs to be struck, but really the decision on when to take board exams should only be made once schools can open, if only for the board to attend classes.
