Bangalore / New Delhi:
The CBI launched raids this morning at the premises of Congress leader DK Shivakumar in Karnataka, Mumbai and elsewhere in an alleged corruption case.
The case of alleged corruption was registered by the CBI based on the inputs shared by the Enforcement Directorate in a case of money laundering linked to the tax evasion process by the Income Tax Department, the sources said.
During the money laundering investigation, the Enforcement Directorate had sent some of its findings to the CBI last year.
Today’s raids, which are carried out in 14 locations, have been defined by the Karnataka Congress as an “attempt to derail our preparation for the by-elections.”
In addition to DK Shivakumar, the premises of his family members and associates in Karnataka and Maharashtra are also being searched.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tweeted: “@ BJP4India has always tried to indulge in vindictive politics and mislead the public’s attention. The latest CBI raid on @KPCCPresident @DKShivakuma’s home is yet another attempt to derail our preparation for voting. I strongly condemn this, “he tweeted.
“What else can we expect after the exposition on @bsybjp by @INCKarnataka,” Karti Chidambaram wrote on Twitter, attacking Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
