New Delhi:
The CBI arrested a Bank of Baroda branch manager for allegedly taking bribes from a farmer for paying off his farm loan, authorities said Friday.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at the residence of the defendant branch manager Kiran Thakre of the Parola, Jalgaon branch in Maharashtra and an agent during which 10 lakh rupees in cash were recovered.
The CBI had indicted the two for receiving a bribe of Rs 75,000 from the complainant for the sanction and the disbursement of an agricultural loan of Rs 7.10 lakh to the farmer who filed a complaint with the agency, they said.
“During the investigation, it was revealed that an agent (private person) also allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 to prosecute such matter. It was further alleged that the amount of the bribe was later negotiated and set at Rs 75,000 (Rs 50,000 for the Manager and 25,000 rupees for agent), “said CBI spokesman RK Gaur.
The branch manager allegedly took a blank check from the farmer for paying off his loan, Gaur said, calling it a “unique modus operandi” in bribery cases.
An amount of Rs 75,000 was withdrawn through the agent.
The check was recovered along with the loan file during searches at the residence, he said.
