Cat ornament 2020: Aaryan Kapoor, an electronic and instrumental engineering student at BITS-Pilani, is among the nine candidates who scored in the 100th percentile on Common Admission Test (CAT) 2020. The 21-year-old from Garhshankar, a small town in the Hoshiyarpur district of Punjab, said he was hoping for a 99th percentile, but the higher rank came as a surprise.
“I had opted for finance minors during my engineering career, which sparked my interest in this field. I had also opted for a six-month internship at a bank to further increase my interest. While I started preparing for CAT by giving some mock documents starting in January 2020, I started my serious preparation only in the last six months, ”Kapoor said.

When asked about the level of difficulty of CAT and JEE, Kapoor said, “While the JEE checks one’s depth in certain areas, CAT has a wide range of topics to cover, it tests one’s aptitude.” He adds: “While time management is critical to all exams, it is more important for CAT to know which questions to let than to know which to try. As it is a PG level exam, the questions are not straightforward and there are many hidden pitfalls, I also got stuck on a question but dropped it as soon as I realized it. The idea is to solve as many questions as you know and as fast as you can. Instead of trying all the questions, you should only try the topics you have confidence in. “
Kapoor admitted he was weak in the verbal skills section and said he paid special attention to his weak points. “I signed up for an online course just for the VARC section. I also participated in a series of mock tests from almost all the major providers, as well as enrolled in a general CAT exam preparation manual from a famous training institute, ”he said.
Practicing mock tests, he said, helped him analyze his performance.

“I used to give 1-2 hours during the week along with my internship and 6-8 hours on weekends. Most of my preparation and drills happened overnight, ”said the 21-year-old. Kapoor said it would also show up to campus locations to ensure backup, but its goal is to work in the investment banking domain rather than engineering.
Advising the candidates who will appear for CAT 2021, he said: “One can only prepare for the basics and be ready to face challenges during exams. Many students panic during the exam. Especially this year, when the duration of the exam was shortened, the pressure was too much, the key is to stay calm.
