On Wednesday, West Bengal police registered FIR against veteran BJP leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya, Tejasvi Surya, Dilip Ghosh and several other party leaders on the allegation that they encouraged violence during the “Uttarkanya Abhijan” party march in Siliguri el December 7th.
A suo moto case was recorded at the Siliguri Metropolitan Police New Jalpaiguri Police Station against the BJP National Secretary General and State Observer, Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP Parliamentarian and President Yuva Morcha, Tejasvi Surya, and Chief BJP State, Dilip Ghosh. The police also charged Soumitra Khan, Sayantan Bose, Sukanta Majumder, Nisith Pramanik, Raju Bista, John BArla, Khogen Murmu, Sanku Deb Panda and Praveen Agarwal and others.
Police alleged that the defendants encouraged party workers to create violence, violate law and order, confront the police and damage government property.
Hundreds of workers and supporters of the BJP marched to Uttarkanya, the secretariat of the state branch of government, on Monday, protesting the “misrule” of the TMC government in the state when the police detained them.
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and BJP workers and leaders fought a pitched battle with the police after they were prevented from passing barricades at two points near the branch office. Subsequently, the police issued a statement alleging that “serious acts of violence” were committed at the Siliguri protest and used water cannons and fired several bursts of tear gas projectiles to disperse the crowd.
A BJP party worker, named Ulen Roy, succumbed to injuries caused by shotgun pellets, according to a post-mortem report. The West Bengal police claimed that the force did not use shotguns and alleged that “armed persons were brought in and shot with firearms”.
The BJP National Secretary General and Head of State, Kailash Vijayvargiya, alleged that a “nexus between the police and the thugs of the Trinamool Congress (TMC)” was behind the death of party worker Ulen Roy.
“This is the Nadirshahi (cruelty) of the police and the anarchy of the Mamata Banerjee government. There is a nexus between the police and the TMC thugs. The police were using tear gas and the thugs were throwing field bombs,” he had said.
