The Central and Punjab Government is expected to work on a solution to the ongoing farmers’ upheaval on Thursday, with Chief Minister of the State Captain Amarinder Singh set to meet Interior Minister Amit Shah at the national capital.
Top Punjab government sources confirmed the scheduled meeting to be held tomorrow morning before the Center’s meeting with the agitated farmers’ unions.
Amarinder Singh is expected to give his suggestions to ease the current tension with a section of Congress Party leaders who are wary of the turn the turmoil could take if it lasts too long.
Ludhiana MP Ravneet Bittu on Wednesday urged Shah to take control, noting that undesirable elements, including some elements from Khalistan, had penetrated the protests and were hijacking the unrest.
Singh has previously demanded the restoration of the MSP system and its legal guarantee.
The sources said Singh could even attend the meeting with the farmers to help reach an agreement to end the current deadlock.
Captain Amarinder will meet Shah at the latter’s residence.
