NEW DELHI: Former Australian sprinter Brett Lee believes Virat Kohli can overcome the extraordinary feats of “god” Sachin Tendulkar.

“We are talking about phenomenal numbers here, so you mentioned seven to eight years of cricket and at the rate that he (Virat Kohli) is going, yes he can definitely quit,” Lee said as he spoke on a channel.

Lee, who played 76 tests, 221 ODI and 25 T20I for Australia, added that it will not be easy to break Tendulkar’s massive records yet.

“But how can you say that someone can pass Sachin Tendulkar? Here is God, if someone can go better than God, we will wait and see,” said the 43-year-old man.

Tendulkar made his debut against Pakistan in Karachi in 1989 at age 16. The master hitter went on to play 200 Tests for India, scoring 100 centuries in Tests and ODI. In 463 ODI, Tendulkar had 18,426 races, including 49 tons, and in Tests, he has 15,921 races to his name, including 51 centuries.

Kohli, on the other hand, has obtained 43 hundreds and 27 tons of ODI test so far in his career.

According to Lee, three factors work in favor of the current Indian captain to overcome Tendulkar’s cricket exploits.

“It all comes down to three things, there is one thing I would like to eliminate, so if you talk about talent as a hitter, he definitely has that talent, eliminate that first of all,” he said.

“Then the physical form: Virat Kohli has that physical form, so for me it’s all about the physical form at the age of 30 and also that mental strength, the mental capacity to overcome those difficult times, to be away from home , his wife or when they will have children.

“He will do it easily with his talent, it all comes down to his mental strength and if he stays fit enough and I think he has all three of those components to beat Sachin.” added the former fast bowler.
