Google has been working on native call recording support in its phone app for some time. We first saw some tests in January of this year, and we even managed to fully activate the feature a few days later. Unsurprisingly, owners of the Google Pixel smartphone series received this feature first, followed by a slew of Nokia devices that are part of the Android One initiative. It appears that the Mountain View giant is preparing to expand the list. , as several Xiaomi users now have access to the call recording module in the Google Phone application.
Here is a quick refresher on Xiaomi’s stance regarding call recording: MIUI comes with its own version of the dialer app that supports call recording. However, recent Xiaomi phones sold outside of China, India or Indonesia come with the Google Phone (and Google Messages) app pre-installed, and not its MIUI equivalent app. Unless Google decides to flip a server-side switch, these variants don’t have access to the out-of-the-box call recording feature. Well, apparently the waiting period is over.
As reported by PiunikaWeb, the native call recording feature in the Google Phone app is now available on the global variants of Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi Note 9S and Redmi Note 9 Pro. Many users have weighed in on Mi Forum to confirm that they have received the feature of nowhere on the scoreboard. In some cases, the option disappears after reboot, which sounds like a server-side A / B test. The Mi A series, which runs on Android One instead of MIUI, also got call recording support using the Google Phone app in recent months.
At the time of writing, there is no known way to force the call recording option to appear in the app. You can try installing the beta version of the Google Phone app and let us know in the comments below if you enable the feature on your device.
