Bus crash in Sidhi: 34 bodies found, several still missing in Sidhi of Madhya Pradesh | Bhopal News


BHOPAL: At least 42 people died, while several others remained missing after a bus fell from a bridge into a canal in Madhya Pradesh. Sidhi District Tuesday morning
The incident took place below the Rampur Naikin Police Station around 8.30 a.m. M.
“We have recovered 42 bodies so far. They are sent for an autopsy,” ANI quoted Rewa Division Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Jain as saying.
“The rescue operation is underway. The search is being carried out up to the detention dam for missing persons. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined,” added Jain.

The bus was heading towards Satna from the Sidhi district.
“More than 50 passengers were riding the bus. The bus was completely submerged in the water and it took more than three hours to get the bus out,” the sources said.
Sources previously said that at least seven people, including the bus driver, managed to swim to shore.
The police and rescue teams from Rewa, Satna, Singrauli, as well as local teams, are carrying out relief works.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed regret over the incident and dispatched Cabinet Ministers Tulsi Silawat and Ramkhilawan Patel to the scene.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the closest relatives of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for the seriously injured.
Bus accident: MP government cancels event attended by Amit Shah
The government of Madhya Pradesh has canceled the ‘grih pravesh’ or housewarming ceremony to be virtually attended by Union Interior Minister Amit Shah, in view of Tuesday Sidhi bus accident in which many passengers are feared drowning.
The cancellation of the event, which was scheduled to begin at 11 am at Minto Hall in Bhopal, was announced by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan after he arrived at the venue.
Amit Shah was scheduled to participate via videoconference in this program for beneficiaries of more than one lakh of houses built in Madhya Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
