A day after claiming that Bengaluru has become a hub for terrorist activities, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya found support from Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, who said there has indeed been an increase in criminal activity in the city.

Yediyurappa said on Monday that he requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to establish a separate division of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the city. “I have also asked PM Modi to establish NIA here. We are seeing an increase in cases, ”Yediyurappa said.

Tejasvi, newly appointed president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, said on Sunday that Bengaluru has become an epicenter for terrorist activities and called on Union Interior Minister Amit Shah to establish a permanent division of the NIA in the city.

Surya said that many terror modules have been destroyed in Bengaluru in the recent past and that terrorist groups want to use the city as an “incubation center” for terrorist activities. “The Interior Minister has ensured that he will instruct officials to establish a permanent police station staffed by an officer of the rank of the SP as soon as possible,” Surya said.

“In recent years, Bengaluru, India’s Silicon Valley, has become the epicenter of terrorist activities. It has been demonstrated through many arrests and sleeper terror cells busted by the investigative agency in the city,” he said. Surya, who represents Bengaluru South at Lok Sabha, told reporters here. “It is of great concern that NIA investigations into the mob violence of DJ Halli and KG Halli in August have indicated that many terrorist organizations are using Bengaluru as their incubation center to carry out activities against India.” He said.

More than 3,000 people made a riot on August 11, setting fire to the residences of MLA R Congress Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy, his sister Jayanthi and the DJ Halli and KG Halli halli police stations in Bengaluru. The violence erupted over an alleged incendiary post on social media by the MLA Congressional nephew.

Surya said there are reports that the NIA does not have sufficient infrastructure and human resources to conduct investigations. The NIA is currently operating with skeletal personnel and that too from Hyderabad with just one camp office in Bengaluru.
