Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has decided to extend the limit of its promotional broadband offer until May 19. Previously, the validity was extended until April 19 after the first blocking phase was announced. The extension is in place to encourage BSNL landline users to stay home.

The promotional “Work @ Home” broadband offers 5GB of data per day to all users at a speed of 10Mbps. Once the 5GB is exhausted, the connection speed drops to 1Mbps. According to the banner on the company’s site, the new offer is valid for “existing BSNL fixed customers who have not experienced BSNL high-bandwidth service.”

High-speed Internet can be accessed, according to the BSNL India website, simply by connecting your modem. The company has provided toll-free numbers to activate the on-call offer.

BSNL has also extended the validity of its prepaid numbers due to subscribers’ difficulties in finding outlets to recharge their phones. All BSNL prepaid customers who were unable to top up their accounts during the block will continue to receive incoming calls until May 5. BSNL has also launched a top-up helpline at a toll-free number for subscribers to top-up.

Other telecommunications companies have also taken similar steps to help people who are unable to recharge their phones due to the blocking situation. Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea have also extended their validity until May 3. Airtel will also allow around 30 crore subscribers to continue receiving calls until May 3. The second phase of the blockade will end on May 3.

The prime minister will speak to heads of state on Monday to assess the situation in the country and plan new measures to curb the spread of the disease.
