The Border Security Force (BSF) will always be there to protect the country from Pakistan’s cowardly infiltration attempts, Rakesh Asthana, director general of the force, said Tuesday on its 56th Day of Rising.
“We want to assure the country that our men will always be there to protect the country from Pakistan’s cowardly infiltration attempts, which we see have increased in the recent past,” said the Director General of BSF.
Asthana also paid tribute to BSF personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty on the occasion.
“I pay my respects to the families of all BSF staff who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The BSF is the sentinel of the international border of more than 6,000 km in length of the country. The BSF, made up of 25 battalions, has 192 battalions today, ”he said.
The event was organized at the BSF Chhawla camp with the Covid-19 security protocols in place. A parade of BSF staff was also held to mark the occasion.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the force has distinguished itself by its unwavering commitment to protecting the nation and helping citizens during natural calamities.
“Best wishes to all BSF staff and their families on the special occasion of their Raising Day. BSF has distinguished itself as a courageous force, unwavering in its commitment to protect the nation and assist citizens during natural calamities. India is proud of BSF! Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
Meanwhile, Union Interior Minister Amit Shah also saluted the courageous staff of the force for their national service.
“The BSF has always lived up to its motto ‘Duty for Life’ (Jeevan Paryant Kartavya) with its bravery and skill. Today, on the 56th BSF Fundraising Day, I salute all the courageous personnel of the force for their national service and dedication. India is proud of its victorious ‘Border Security Force’, ”the minister tweeted in Hindi.
The BSF is called the First Line of Defense of the Indian Territories. The paramilitary force rose on December 1, 1965 according to an act of the Indian Parliament shortly after the 1965 India-Pakistan war. The paramilitary force is tasked with protecting India’s land border with Pakistan and Bangladesh during times of peace and prevent transnational crime. It is one of the largest border forces with a force of 257,363 active personnel.
