BSF detects cross-border tunnel from Pakistan to Jammu and Kashmir – cities

The Border Security Force (BSF) has detected a cross-border tunnel originating in Pakistan apparently dug to push infiltrators through the Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The detection has led BSF to launch a major operation to check if there were more tunnels of this type.

In a tweet, the BSF said that the tunnel approximately 20 feet long and three and four feet wide was detected within Indian territory near the international border in the Basantar area of Samba. “Pakistan made sandbags with the Shakargarh / Karachi handwriting also found at the mouth of the tunnel to hide it. The tunnel opening site is about 170 Mtrs from IB [international border] to the Indian side in a local farmer’s field. “

The BSF said its troops thwarted Pakistan’s nefarious design to infiltrate terrorists into Indian territory with this detection. “The efforts of the BSF warning troops deployed in our counterinfiltration network resulted once again in the neutralization of the evil designs of the terrorists.”

A BSF official said that there have been regular comments about the presence of terrorists on the Pakistani side seeking infiltration options into Indian territory.

A patrol on Thursday detected the tunnel 50 meters from the border fence on the Indian side.

“BSF has found some plastic sandbags in its mouth with Pakistani markings. It was digging almost 25 to 30 feet underground. The BSF has launched a massive search operation and an anti-tunnel unit to detect such tunnels, ”the official said on condition of anonymity.

The closest Pakistani border post is about 400 meters from the tunnel.

“The modus operandi of digging tunnels to push in terrorists is an old Pakistani tactic. It seems that Pakistan has started to imitate Hamas fighters, who dig underground tunnels to enter Israel, ”said an official with the counterinsurgency wing of the Jammu and Kashmir police.

In September 2019, the BSF launched an operation along the border to detect underground cross-border tunnels. The BSF also uses ground penetrating radars to detect tunnels.

Pakistan has chosen areas like Samba to dig those tunnels to push out armed terrorists.
