The BS6 Alturas G4 will continue to face Ford Endeavor, Toyota Fortuner and the Isuzu MU-X in the country.
While Mahindra & Mahindra has upgraded almost its entire line in India to meet stringent BS6 emission standards, one car that has yet to be updated is the automaker’s flagship SUV, the full-size Alturas G4. However, there is finally good news, as the self-made automaker released a sneak peek at the upcoming BS6-compliant version of the SUV on its official website, confirming that it will be released soon.
In addition to BS6 compliance, we do not expect the Alturas G4 powertrain to present any other changes. That said, the BS4 Alturas G4 was offered with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, which produced 181 PS of peak power, along with 420 Nm of maximum torque. Transmission tasks were handled by a Mercedes-Benz 7-speed automatic gearbox.
The cabin layout, layout, and list of features will also be retained. The list of features includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, dual-zone automatic climate control, power sunroof, gate power rear and vented front seats.
On the safety front, the Alturas G4 comes equipped with features like nine airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability program, hill start assistance, active protection against rollovers, traction control system, brake assist system and hill descent control.
A test mule from the Alturas G4 was also previously spied on, tied to a BS6 test kit. Interestingly, the spied car had a different set of dual-tone alloy wheels compared to those currently offered with the car.
Mahindra sold the BS4 Alturas G4 in two variants: 2WD and 4WD, priced at Rs 27.7 lakh and Rs 30.7 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. However, we expect Mahindra to increase the SUV price to BS6 compliant. Upon launch, the updated Alturas G4 will continue to compete with Ford Endeavor, Toyota Fortuner, and Isuzu MU-X in the Indian market.
