Bangalore:

As the number of COVID-19 patients with the UK strain of coronavirus skyrocketed to 20 in India, including seven in Karnataka, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa called on all returning from foreign countries to “do testing it for its own sake. ” The appeal came amid growing concerns about the mutation, considered 70 percent more transmissible, which increases infections in the state, which is the second-worst hit in terms of absolute cases.

“Those who came from abroad (Great Britain and other countries during the last two months) should be tested. Those who have already arrived, rather than disappearing, should be tested for their own good. Kingdom) spreads very easily, this will help to control it … There should be no unnecessary problems for others, “Yediyurappa said a day after the center made testing of the genome of Covid swabs of all foreign returnees mandatory among December 9 and 22.

According to the PTI news agency, 2,500 people arrived in Karnataka from the UK between November 25 and December 22. Of these, as of Tuesday night, 1,903 had been tested and 29 tested positive, and 275 results are expected.

The state health department has approached the Department of the Interior and the police to locate returnees who have disappeared.

Of the 20 people with the UK Covid strain, seven are in Karnataka, three in Bengaluru municipal area and four in Shivamogga district, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar told NDTV. He also confirmed that the state has reverted to using some of the older and more stringent home isolation guidelines in light of the new virus.

The Karnataka government, like many other states, has imposed restrictions on the public celebration of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

“Dear citizens, the danger to the crown has not abated yet. As we enter the New Year (make sure) not even a little ignorance about the pandemic (rules) is made. Follow the government guidelines and stick to saved, “Yediyurappa tweeted.

To avoid any “high profile event,” the government, according to a letter from the center, has banned large parties and events in clubs, pubs, restaurants and other venues.

The gathering of people in public places and roads for celebrations is also prohibited.

Strict measures are being considered to ensure that the new strain can be suppressed at the beginning when “it’s easy”. Once transmission is too widespread, it is difficult to control, the Union Health Ministry said in its coronavirus briefing on Tuesday.

The Pune civic body also made a similar appeal asking passengers returning to the UK to report for medical checks. At least 100 people who returned from Britain before December 22 remain untraceable in the city of Maharashtra.
