Bringing DL, RC to e-challans, five changes to the Motor Vehicle Rules starting tomorrow

Starting tomorrow a number of changes will take place for vehicle owners in India regarding the mandatory transport of vehicle related documents. In order to drive digitization and prevent harassment of drivers by traffic police officers, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has notified several amendments to the Central Vehicle Rules of 1989 engine from October 1, 2020.

Mint will walk you through these motor vehicle rule changes:

1) No physical verification of vehicle documents

All vehicle documents that are validated by electronic means will not be physically required for inspection. It also includes cases in which a crime is committed that requires the seizure of such documents. Even the e-challans will also be available on the government’s digital portal for traffic violators to read.

2) What happens if the DL must be revoked?

If a situation arises where the drivers license must be reported for disqualification or revocation for serious violations, the authorities can record and report the violator report on the digital portal. The portal will be updated chronologically.

3) No one escapes the new system

The record of violators will be kept electronically and the authorities will also monitor the driver’s behavior. Not only the offenders, the inspection time stamp and the identity of the police officer in uniform or any other official authorized by the State Government, will be registered in the government portal. The reason is to avoid an unnecessary inspection or inspection of vehicles and to eliminate harassment of drivers.

4) Where will you keep your vehicle documents?

Drivers can keep their vehicle documents on the central government online portal such as Digi-locker or m-parivahan. It is no longer necessary to carry physical documents with you.

5) use your phones wisely

The use of mobile phones or any other portable communication device while driving will only be used for route navigation in such a way that it does not disturb the driver’s concentration while driving. Even if you are caught using their phones for any purpose other than this, the violator will be fined under existing traffic regulations.
