The CSK off-roader suffered the injury in the match against Delhi Capitals
Chennai Super Kings will be without Dwayne Bravo’s services for the remainder of IPL 2020 as the West Indies are set to fly out of the UAE after sustaining a groin injury. The off-roader suffered the injury during CSK’s game against Delhi Capitals on October 17.
“Bravo is ruled out due to a groin injury,” confirmed Kasi Viswanathan, CEO of Chennai Super Kings, to Cricbuzz on Wednesday (October 21). “He will fly tomorrow. The team leadership will decide if we need a replacement.”
Bravo threw three overs in the game against Delhi Capitals, but was unavailable to pitch his fourth after getting injured. CSK had to use Ravindra Jadeja for the 20th and the Capitals needed 17 for the win. The left arm spinner ended up getting hit by three sixes by Axar Patel.
It was a disastrous IPL for the Chennai Super Kings even before the start of their campaign. Some members of his contingent, including Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad, tested positive for COVID-19. This meant that their quarantine period had to be extended, which made their preparations difficult.
CSK has also been affected by the absence of key players with Suresh Raina returning from the UAE before the start of the IPL due to personal reasons and Harbhajan Singh also chose not to participate.
Bravo, meanwhile, had also missed the opening matches after suffering a knee problem during the Caribbean Premier League. He finishes the tournament with six matches, having collected six wickets with an average of 30 and an economy of 8.57. He hit only twice this season and finished with seven runs.
Josh Hazlewood had replaced Bravo in the eleven during his previous match against the Rajasthan Royals. CSK also lost that game to record their seventh loss in 10 games of the season, with their chances of going to the play-offs nearly complete. In addition to Hazlewood, CSK also have overseas options like Imran Tahir, Mitchell Santner and Lungi Ngidi to make up for Bravo’s absence.
