BrahMos hits target with ‘pinpoint accuracy’ during test fire | India News

NEW DELHI: India carried out two “live operational shots” of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago, amid continued military confrontation with China in eastern Ladakh.
The ground attack variant of the “deep impact precision missile” hit the target on an island nearly 300 km away with pinpoint accuracy in tests conducted by the Army at 1:30 PM and then by the IAF at 4:00 PM.
The shots are part of ongoing testing of the air-breathing missile, the range of which is now being improved to almost 450 km from the existing 290 km. Flying at nearly three times the speed of sound at Mach 2.8, the BrahMos The missile is considered the best of its kind in the world.
“The first test of a mobile autonomous launcher was carried out on Tuesday. Both tests on Wednesday followed different trajectories to hit the target from different directions, with the Army firing the missile in full combat mode. A naval warship will also fire the anti-ship version of the missile in the coming days, ”an official said.

The improved version of BrahMos with an impact range of almost 450 km, which has been successfully tested three to four times, is on track to be operational soon. Plans are also underway for India and Russia to test an even longer version of BrahMos, with a range of 800km, by the middle of next year, as previously reported by TOI.
The armed forces have installed the missile in large numbers over the years, with contracts worth more than 36 billion rupees already signed so far. BrahMos missile batteries have also been deployed in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh as part of the operational readiness posture against China.
Similarly, some Sukhoi-30MKI fighters armed with BrahMos missiles are also deployed to air bases closer to the Royal Line of Control. With a combat radius of nearly 1,500 km without air refueling, the Sukhois with BrahMos missiles constitute a formidable long-range weapons package.
