The defendant in the Malegaon explosion case and BJP Pragya Singh Thakur’s MP for Bhopal said at a meeting in Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore on Saturday that shudras “feel bad” when called shudras due to “ignorance.” about the social system.
Addressing a meeting of the Kshatriya Mahasabha, Thakur said that society has been divided into four categories in “our dharmashastra (social treatise).”
“Kshatriya ko kshatriya keh do, bura nahin lagta. Brahmin ko brahmin keh do, bura nahin lagta. Vaishya ko Vaishya keh do, bura nahin lagta. Shudra ko shudra keh do, bura lag jata hai. Kaaran kya hai? Kyunki na-samjhi, samajh nahi paate “, she said.
(“If you call a kshatriya kshatriya, they don’t feel bad; call a brahmin brahmin, it doesn’t feel bad; call a vaishya a vaishya, it doesn’t feel bad. But if you call a shudra a shudra, they feel bad. Why is this so? Due to ignorance, they cannot understand “).
In other controversial comments, Thakur said that a “law to control population growth should be for those who indulge in anti-national activities … it does not apply to those who live for the nation.”
He also said that “the reservation must be based on the economic context to benefit the poor, allowing them to live a better life and not along caste lines.” Addressing the women at the meeting, she said: “Today’s Kshatriya must understand their duties and produce more and more children to join the Armed Forces so they can fight for the nation and strengthen its security.”
On the ongoing farmer protests, he said: “Those who have been protesting on behalf of farmers are anti-national. They are not farmers, but congressmen and leftists disguised as farmers raising their voices against the country and spreading misinformation, as they did during Shaheen Bagh’s protest (in Delhi against the CAA) ”.
On Sunday, Thakur was not available for comment, but her office said she was invited to the event to mark the founding day of Kshatriya Mahasabha. However, Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha’s national labor chair, Surendra Singh Tomar, said the organization was not behind the event.
“The establishment day will be commemorated on December 27 and a meeting will be held in Gwalior,” Tomar said, adding that the organization has around 2.5 lakh members in Madhya Pradesh from 17.5 lakh throughout the country.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, Mahasabha officials said the event Thakur attended was “organized by his own people.”
Thakur has had to apologize twice in the recent past for his controversial comments. In the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he apologized for his comments on the death of former Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare, who was killed in the 11/26 attacks. Thakur was the first to be arrested in the Malegaon case on October 23, 2008, a month after the explosion following the Karkare-led ATS investigation.
In November 2019, she was criticized for her comments praising Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin, Nathuram Godse, who forced the BJP to remove her from the defense advisory committee. He had to apologize twice at Lok Sabha after an angry opposition rejected his first apology.
