Bowling in India’s world-class batting drive will be a test for me: Mitchell Swepson | Cricket news

MELBOURNE: Drafted into the Australian team for the upcoming four-round series, leg-spinner fit Mitchell swepson says he’s eager to put his skills to the test against India’s world-class batting unit led by the captain virat Kohli.
Swepson has yet to make his Test debut, despite being inducted into the squad for the Sydney Test against New Zealand last summer and also considered for the Bangladesh tour before the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the Serie.

Included in the Australia A team for the two preparation games against India, Swepson is now looking forward to a chance to bowl against Kohli and company.
“You want to challenge yourself against the best, and it’s no secret that he (Kohli) is among the best,” Swepson was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
“For me it is another challenge and another thing that excites me to be able to test myself against a great cricketer.
“His entire hitting lineup is world class. So any chance to pitch against those guys is a test for me and a challenge that I can’t wait.”
Swepson took 23 wickets in three Marsh Sheffield Shield games this season averaging 21.17 to make a strong case for himself, but says he’s not yet “counting his chickens” as he knows the veteran Nathan Lyon it will be the first option.
“He (Lyon) has proven his worth time and time again in test matches. I’m not counting my chickens there too much to go over him,” said the 27-year-old.
“But if the conditions suit, there may be a possibility that two spinners will play.
“I will be preparing to play all four games. If the opportunity presents itself, I hope it will take it with both hands. And if not, then so be it. I am sure there will be more opportunities in the future.”

India is scheduled to play three ODIs, three T20s and a four-round series on the tour, starting with T20I from November 27.
The test series will begin with a day and night game in Adelaide starting December 17. Captain Virat Kohli will miss the last three games and will return home to attend the birth of his first child.
