NCB investigates ‘Bollywood drug nexus’
The central agency that has been investigating the drugs angle in the Sushant Singh Rajput death investigation arrested more than 12 people, including actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik, under the NDPS for the acquisition and financing of narcotic substances. Although the brothers requested bail from the Superior Court, a special court extended their judicial custody until October 6. In addition to the drug link in this case, the NCB has registered a complaint based on Akali Dal’s leader Manjinder Sirsa’s drug allegations regarding a 2019 Bollywood party video with various Bollywood celebrities.
The link to drugs was first discovered by ED when analyzing the WhatsApp conversations between Rhea and others about the illegal use of weed and cannabidiol (CBD) since 2017. It summarizes three conversations that point to: illegal acquisition of weed by party from Showik in April-May 2020, Saha delivering CBD to Rhea to allegedly mix it with Rajput coffee in November 2019 and similar conversations about illegally sourcing marijuana in March 2017 and April 2020. Other WhatsApp conversations between Saha and the celebrities mentioned above have also allegedly been discovered by the NCB now.
