Boiler explosion at NLC thermal plant injures eight

CHENNAI: At least eight Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) India workers were injured and hospitalized when a boiler in one of the Neyveli power units in the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu exploded on Thursday night.

All eight people, two employees and six contract workers, have been admitted to a private Tiruchy hospital. Of the eight, two suffered burns of 70 percent, while the rest have burns of 30 to 50 percent.

The explosion comes as the nation suffered two other industrial tragedies on Thursday, the gas leak at a chemical plant in Vizag that has killed 11 people so far, and the gas leak at a paper mill in Chhattisgarh where seven workers they were hospitalized after inhaling toxic gases. .

The cause of the Neyveli accident could not be immediately determined, however, fire services and police rushed to the scene to contain the blast.

In a similar incident in June last year, one person was killed and two others were injured at NLC facilities.
