The Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) exams for classes X and XII will not take place in the months of January and February 2021 and a decision will be made later on the dates to take the tests according to the circumstances, said the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. on Tuesday.
In a virtual interaction with professors across the country, Nishank also dismissed any further reduction in the curriculum, noting that CBSE had already cut it by 30%.
During the interaction, a teacher asked the minister about plans related to the exams, if they would be postponed or if the calendar had been marked.
Nishank said that the government had made all the decisions during the Covid-19 period with the interest of students in mind.
“In January the practical exams would begin and normally the exams would take place from mid-February to mid-March. Based on current conditions, I can say that taking exams would not be possible in the months of January or February. We have decided that. However, after this period we will carry out consultations and make a final decision, ”said the Union minister.
The minister said that it has been decided that the exams will not be held in January or February and a decision will be made later.
Responding to a question about reducing the syllabus and providing more question options in the exams, Nishank said that the CBSE had already reduced the syllabus by 30%. He said that even state boards such as Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh had also reduced the curriculum.
He also said that there were enough options to answer questions.
On a question about taking exams online, Nishank said that there was a section that did not have enough access to digital media. He said the government was trying to bridge the digital divide, but it remained a challenge.
