The CBSE exams for classes 10 and 12 will likely take place and a schedule is likely to be announced soon, board secretary Anurag Tripathi said on Friday.
Tripathi’s comments come amid demands from various quarters for the cancellation or postponement of the board’s examinations in light of the surge in COVID-19 cases.
“Board examinations will be conducted safely and a schedule will be announced very soon. The CBSE is making plans and will reveal soon how it will do the mock assessments, ”he said during a webinar on“ New Education Policy (NEP): A Brighter Future for School Education ”organized by ASSOCHAM.
However, he did not comment on whether the exams will be conducted in the same format and will be held in February-March on schedule or whether they will be postponed.
“During March-April we were puzzled about how to move on, but our schools and teachers rose to the occasion and were transformed, trained in the use of new technology for educational purposes and, in a few months, conducting classes in line using different applications became normal. ” Tripathi said. Schools across the country were closed in March to contain the spread of the new coronavirus and were partially opened in some states as of October 15. However, few states decided to keep them closed or closed again in light of the increase in COVID-19 cases.
Board exams that had to be postponed midway were later canceled and results announced based on an alternate evaluation plan.
There have been demands for the board’s exams to be postponed until May in view of continued school closings and teaching-learning activities are fully online.
Noting that a common goal of all education policies, including the new National Education Policy (NEP), has been to shift students from rote learning to experiential learning, Tripathi said that “the main objective and the main objective of the NEP 2020 is to make a shift towards skills and competence-based education ”.
“We need to move students from knowledge-based education to competence- and skill-based learning. To implement an education based on skills and competences, it is necessary to transform and follow the entire teaching-learning process based on pedagogy, whether in the classroom, face-to-face teaching or online teaching.
“The pedagogy-based teaching-learning process is more about making students more curious, innovative, creative and providing them with experiential learning and this can only be achieved when schools, teachers and principals change the pedagogy of teaching, ”he said.
