Tarkishore Prasad was elected a member of the Bihar assembly of Katihar.

BJP’s Tarkishore Prasad will be Bihar’s new chief deputy minister and Sushil Kumar Modi is expected to be transferred to Delhi to take up a position in the union cabinet, sources told NDTV on Sunday.

The Katihar MLA of Bihar, Mr. Prasad was elected BJP leader at the assembly one day before Nitish Kumar is sworn in as Chief Minister for the fourth time.

Sushil Modi, who was senior deputy minister in Nitish Kumar’s last cabinet and also the leader of the BJP legislative party in Bihar before the 2020 Assembly elections, said that Prasad was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party in Bihar.

“The BJP and the Sangh Parivar gave me so much in the political life of 40 years. I will fulfill the responsibility that will be given to me. No one can remove the position of the party worker,” he wrote on Twitter.

He also congratulated Bettiah MLA Renu Devi on being elected as the deputy leader of the BJP legislative party.

“Heartfelt congratulations to the four-time MLA of Bettiah Renu Devi, who comes from the Nonia community for being elected as the deputy leader of the BJP legislative party,” Modi tweeted.

Earlier in the day, an NDA meeting was held where Nitish Kumar was named leader, paving the way for his return as prime minister for the fourth consecutive term.

The NDA secured a majority in recent elections for the 243-member Bihar Assembly by winning 125 seats this week.
