Chennai:
Actress-turned-politician Khushbu Sundar, who joined the BJP last month, escaped unscathed after she suffered an accident in Tamil Nadu this morning. “I ran into an accident near Melmarvathur … a tanker truck crashed into us. With your blessings and God’s grace, I am safe,” he tweeted, sharing two photos of his badly damaged car.
However, a police officer told NDTV that Ms. Sundar’s car “brushed against the container carrying washing machines while passing.”
“We have arrested both drivers for reckless driving,” the officer said.
The accident occurred in the city of Melmarvathur in the Kancheepuram district, about 97 km from the state capital, Chennai, when he was on his way to the Cuddalore district to participate in a “Vetri Vel Yatra” (March of the Victorious Spear) that it has become a flash point between the BJP and the state ruler AIADMK, its ally.

In another tweet, Ms. Sundar, 50, reiterated that it was the container that hit her car and not the other way around, adding that the police are questioning the driver of the container to “rule out any foul play.”
I ask the press to understand that a container hit me and not the other way around. My car was moving in the right lane and this container came out of nowhere and collided with me. The police investigate and question the driver to rule out any dirty acts.

Ms. Sundar said that she will be heading to Cuddalore to participate in the event.
“Vetri Vel Yatra”, planned from November 6 to December 6, was conceptualized in honor of Lord Muruga known for his “Vel” or spear.
When the AIADMK government banned the yatra over Covid concerns, the BJP asserted its right to host the event. The BJP said its rally, an annual exercise, was against what it called the anti-Hindu agenda of some parties.
Khushbu Sundar, 50, switched sides in Congress and joined the BJP just months before the Tamil Nadu elections. In her resignation letter to the president of Congress, Sonia Gandhi, she wrote that she felt “pressured and repressed” by people who had no connection to basic reality.
Shortly after joining the BJP, he has become a prominent face of the party in Tamil Nadu. Last month she was briefly detained by police as she was on her way to lead a protest against a politician for her comments on the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti.
Tamil Nadu would go to the polls in May next year and the BJP, which has a negligible presence in the state, has brought many faces of news ahead of the elections. The ruling AIADMK-BJP alliance suffered a close defeat in the Lok Sabha polls.
