BJP to host nationwide press conferences and chaupals on new farm laws

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will organize press conferences and ‘chaupals’ in all districts of the country on the new agricultural laws starting Friday. 700 press conferences and 700 ‘chaupals’ will be organized in the coming days, according to the ANI news agency.

With thousands of farmers protesting the Center’s new farm laws staying on Delhi’s borders, several routes in the national capital remained off-limits for travelers on Friday.

Farmers from different states have been camping at the Singhu, Tikri, Ghazipur and Chilla (Delhi-Noida) border points of Delhi for almost two weeks to demand the repeal of the agricultural laws enacted in September.

Today is day 16 of the agitation of farmers against the agricultural laws of the Center. After rejecting the Center’s proposals to make amendments to the recently enacted farm laws, which farmers are protesting, the agitator leaders said Thursday they would intensify their agitation by blocking the railroad tracks to pressure the government to repeal the three laws.

Six rounds of talks have been held between the Center and peasant leaders on the laws.

Farmers Protest Agricultural Products Trade and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Act 2020; the Agreement for Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) on Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services Law, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act of 2020. Farmers are concerned that these laws will remove the Minimum Sustenance Price (MSP) safety net and remove the mandis that ensure profits.
