BJP Tejasvi Deputy Surya was charged in a police case with entering Hyderabad’s Osmania University without permission earlier this week, in his campaign for the city’s civic ballot box.
The Osmania University Registrar had filed a burglary complaint against Tejasvi Surya, Telangana Police Chief Mahender Reddy said today.
Tejasvi Surya has been campaigning extensively for the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls in December. He has made several controversial comments while targeting Hyderabad MP and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, as well as Telangana’s ruling party TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samiti).
The Bengaluru MP visited the iconic university on Tuesday along with his supporters. He allegedly removed barricades and barbed wire placed at the gates and made his way onto campus to address students in the Arts College building.
Mr. Surya had accused the police on campus of blocking his entrance by order of Chief Minister K Chandrashekara Rao (KCR).
“We wanted to pay our respects to the martyrs of the Telangana movement at Osmania University. But the KCR has closed its doors,” Surya was quoted as saying.
