The exercise comes at a time when some farmers’ unions have been agitating for weeks on the Delhi borders against the three recently enacted farm laws and seeking to have the laws repealed, a demand rejected by the government that described them as beneficial to the farmers.
It coincides with the anniversary of the birth of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which the BJP observes each year as “good governance day” since he came to power at the Center in 2014.

Despite protests in some places, the country’s farmers have supported Prime Minister Modi, Singh said, citing a number of government schemes to benefit them.
The government’s acquisition of tur dal increased 74 times during the first five years of the Modi government compared to 2009-2014 during the UPA government, he said.
