The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday threw a whip at all its members in Lok Sabha and asked them to be present in the House on March 23, requesting support for the government’s position on “very important legislative issues” that are going to take. Tuesday in the current budget session.
“All members of the BJP in Lok Sabha are informed that some very important legislative matters will be discussed and approved in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, March 23, 2021,” the party’s chief whip, Rakesh Singh, said in a statement on Monday. .
“Therefore, all BJP members in Lok Sabha are requested to be positively present in the Chamber for the entire day of Tuesday, March 23, 2021 and to support the government’s position,” Singh said.
The party had issued, previously on Friday, a whip requesting the presence of the members on Monday.
Lok Sabha on Monday passed the Delhi National Capital Territory Government (Amendment) Bill, 2021, a bill that seeks to make clear that “government” in Delhi means “Lieutenant Governor.” The bill was passed amid strong opposition from Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, which said the legislation is “unconstitutional.”
Meanwhile, the 2021 insurance (amendment) bill was introduced in the Lower House by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday. Moving the bill, he said it was necessary to raise the FDI cap in the insurance sector to 74 percent to help insurers deal with problems related to financial stress. The amendment bill, which seeks to raise the limit for insurance FDI from 49 percent to 74 percent, was approved by Rajya Sabha last week.
Parliament’s Budget Session, which had begun with President Ram Nath Kovind’s speech on January 29, concluded on February 29. The second part of the session began on March 8 and is scheduled to conclude on April 8.
