NEW DELHI: The BJP is optimistic about the results of the Rajasthan panchayat samiti and the election of zila parishad and has attributed the success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government led by him.
Immediately after major breakthroughs in recent Bihar assembly elections and the Hyderabad civic body polls, the Rajasthan Poll results from panchayat samiti and zila parishad are expected to be a blow to the arm for the BJP ahead of next year’s key state elections.
The ruling party in the center says its next target and destination is West Bengal, which is expected to face assembly elections in April-May next year.
The BJP had emerged as the second largest party in the Bihar elections, winning 74 of the 243 seats in the assembly and only one less than the RJD. He was also second in the Hyderabad municipal elections winning 48 of the 150 districts. The ruling TRS won 55 seats. The BJP had won just four seats in the 2016 GHMC elections.
Speaking to timesofindia.com, BJP spokesman Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said that the party’s “spectacular performance” in Rajasthan’s local elections was an alarm to Congress that it was time for it to leave.
He claimed that the congressional government of Rajasthan used all its power in the elections, but the BJP was ahead of the ruling party in the state.
Hussain, who is also a member of the high-profile national electoral committee of the BJP, said that the poor performance of the Congress could be the result of its “internal contradictions, infighting and the poor performance of the state government.”
No one is ready to board the sinking ship, he added.
The former Union minister said: “This is good news for the BJP. After their spectacular performance in the Bihar assembly elections last month and the Hyderabad municipal elections earlier this month, the poll results of Rajasthan panchayat samiti and zila parishad are certainly a positive development for the party. ”
“Kashmir mein bhi kamal khilega. Phir Bengal ki baari hai (The lotus will also bloom in Kashmir. The next will be West Bengal, ”he said.
Local elections in Kashmir are scheduled for December 13, while West Bengal is expected to go to the polls next year.
Hussan added that Modi’s wave is intensifying even though BJP opponents are rallying.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was working as a “sankat mochan” (alluding to Lord Hanuman), solving everyone’s problems, including Covid-19. In an obvious comment to the leader of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, he said that the prime minister did not believe in “political tourism” unlike the leaders of Congress.
“Jo namumkin hai, usko bhi Modi mumkin kar detey hain (Modi makes impossible tasks possible). That is why he lives in the hearts of the people, from east to west and north to south, ”said the BJP leader.
Another BJP spokesperson, Nalin Kohli, said that the party’s victory in the panchayat elections was confirmation that people at the grassroots level were voting in favor of the Narendra Modi government’s policy, which was for all sectors of society, including farmers.
“It also demolishes the congressional party’s fabricated and false narrative that people at the grassroots are not happy with the BJP,” Kohli added.
The BJP won 1,835 seats in the samiti panchayat, while Congress won 1,718 when the results for 4,050 seats were announced. The total number of seats is 4,371 in 222 panchayat samities where elections were held.
The advantages for zila parishads are similar as well, with the BJP gaining 312 seats while Congress achieved just 239 when results for 580 seats were announced. The total number of seats is 636.
The voting to elect 636 members of the parishad zila and 4,371 members of the panchayat samiti took place in four phases in 21 districts of Ajmer, Banswara, Barmer, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Bundi, Chhitorgarh, Churu, Dungarpur, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jalore , Jhalawar, Jhunjhun, Nagaur, Pali, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sikar, Tonk and Usaipur.
The results will decide the fate of 1,778 candidates in the zila parishad and 12,663 in the panchayat samiti elections.
