New Delhi:
A senior BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh has indicated that the UP Police did not do their job properly in handling the case of gang rape and murder of a 20-year-old woman in Hathras district, days after the IWC charged the four defendants with these crimes. crimes.
According to the CBI charge sheet, the 20-year-old Dalit woman was raped by four men from the so-called upper caste community in Hathras on September 14. He later died of his injuries in a Delhi hospital. The victim was hastily cremated near his home in the middle of the night on September 30, an incident that sparked outrage across the country.
“The UP government has always supported the family,” UP Minister of State for Labor Sunil Bharala told NDTV. “The Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, had decided that the CBI should take up the case. He also didn’t trust the police to do their job well. Not that all police officers are good. Saare doodh ke dhule police officers flee nahin hai… From day one Yogi Adityanath Hee he’s been with the family, “Bharala said.
The four defendants in the alleged gang rape and torture of the young Dalit were charged by the IWC last week with gang rape and murder. The IWC has also invoked charges against the defendants under the SC / ST (Atrocity Prevention) Act. The investigative agency presented its charge sheet in court in Hathras, some 200 km from Delhi.
The handling of the case by Uttar Pradesh police, in particular the nightly cremation of the victim allegedly without the approval of the family, sparked angry protests across the country. Officials, however, said the cremation was carried out “according to the wishes of the family.”
In October, the Supreme Court said that the Allahabad High Court will oversee the investigation carried out by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation).
The main defendant had written to the Uttar Pradesh police from jail, claiming that he and the three other defendants were being framed in the case and were seeking “justice” for the four men. He also accused the woman’s mother and brother of torturing her. The woman’s family has denied these accusations.
At the beginning of last week, the CBI sought more time to conclude its investigation, after which the Lucknow Court of the Allahabad High Court set Wednesday, January 27, as the next hearing date in the case.
